- People who have an open case with Adult Protective Services (APS) in Region VI
- People who score 9 or more on a standard depression screening questionnaire called the PHQ-9
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a psychotic disorder, or moderate to severe dementia
- People who require someone else to provide consent on their behalf
- People who score 2 or 3 on question 9 of the PHQ-9, which relates to thoughts of suicide or self-harm
- People who show signs of current alcohol or drug dependency, as measured by a score of 3 or more on a screening tool called the CAGE questionnaire

Change in depression as assessed by the Patient Depression Questionnaire (PHQ-9); Change in apathy as assessed by the Apathy Motivations Index (AMI); Change in Elder Neglect/Self Neglect (EN/SN) as evidenced by study developed goal attainment scale
