Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease according to one of two recognised sets of diagnostic guidelines (the UK PD Society Brain Bank criteria or the 2015 MDS criteria), with the diagnosis confirmed by three neurologists who specialise in movement disorders.
- People who have had a specific type of deep brain stimulation surgery on both sides of the brain, using a device called the Medtronic Percept™ PC, targeting an area of the brain called the subthalamic nucleus (STN).
- People who are able to attend follow-up appointments and take part in clinical assessments after their surgery.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had other types of brain surgery (aside from the DBS surgery described above).
- People whose Parkinson's-like symptoms are caused by something other than Parkinson's disease itself, such as secondary Parkinsonism or a related but different condition known as Parkinsonism-plus syndrome.
- People who have other conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, or nerves.
- People who have serious health conditions in other parts of the body, or who would not be able to tolerate the clinical assessments involved in the trial.
- People who have a severe mental health condition.
- People who are unable to give informed consent due to difficulties with thinking or communication, or who choose not to sign the consent form.
