Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have advanced diabetes-related eye disease affecting the retina
  • People with very high fasting triglyceride (a type of fat in the blood) levels above 400mg/dL
  • People with elevated liver enzyme levels more than twice the normal range
  • People who have had a kidney transplant or have reduced kidney function (confirm with trial site)
  • People with anaemia (low red blood cell levels — below 13.0g/dL for men or below 11.6g/dL for women)
  • People who have had a heart attack or stroke in the past 6 months
  • People with severely high blood pressure (above 180/105 mmHg)
  • People with certain serious heart, lung, thyroid, or other hormonal conditions, including unstable chest pain, heart failure requiring hospitalisation in the past 6 months, significant irregular heart rhythms, serious lung disease requiring oxygen or daily breathing medication, active or ongoing infection, thyroid disease, or conditions such as Cushing's syndrome or acromegaly
  • People who have recently had major surgery
  • People with a major psychiatric (mental health) disorder
  • People currently taking certain medications that may affect metabolism, including steroid tablets, antipsychotic medications, certain blood pressure or fluid tablets, daily asthma medications (aminophylline or theophylline), or immune-suppressing drugs (confirm specific medications with trial site)
  • People who are currently pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
  • People who currently smoke, or have issues with alcohol or illegal drug use
