Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have had surgery for rectal cancer called a low anterior resection (a procedure that removes part of the rectum while keeping the bowel connected)

• People whose surgical join (anastomosis) has been checked by a doctor and shows no signs of leakage or significant narrowing, and no signs of cancer returning in the same area
• People who are enrolled in a national health and social security system (confirm with trial site, as this criterion appears specific to the country where the trial is based)

Who may not be able to join:

• People for whom the use of a bowel irrigation device (TAI — transanal irrigation) is medically unsuitable
• People who have previously used TAI (bowel irrigation) after their colorectal surgery
• People who have a significant narrowing of the bowel at the surgical join
• People with cancer that has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic disease) or cancer that has come back in the same area
• People who are currently receiving chemotherapy
• People who have had radiotherapy to the pelvic area after their rectal cancer surgery
• People with a history of ongoing diarrhoea-related conditions
• People with inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis)
• People with dementia
• People with spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, or another significant condition that may itself be contributing to bowel symptoms
• People whose cancer has returned
• People with a life expectancy of less than one year
• People already participating in another clinical trial for the treatment of LARS symptoms
• People currently undergoing pelvic floor physiotherapy or biofeedback treatment
• People who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the trial period
• People who are unable or unwilling to give formal informed consent to participate
