Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 10 and 45 years old.
- You have been diagnosed with hereditary spastic paraparesis (a genetic condition affecting movement) through both clinical examination and genetic testing, and you also have either a tight Achilles tendon (the cord at the back of your ankle) or a specific foot and ankle deformity.
- An X-ray or CT scan has confirmed the presence of either the tight Achilles tendon or the foot/ankle deformity.
- You (or your legal guardian, if applicable) are willing to sign a consent form and agree to follow the study's requirements.
- Standard treatments such as medications and/or physiotherapy have not worked well enough, and your walking difficulties and foot problems have been getting worse over time.
- Your tight Achilles tendon or foot deformity causes you problems such as pain when walking, frequent falls, or a noticeably reduced quality of life.
- You are able to walk at least 10 metres on bare feet, either on your own or with the help of a walking aid.
Who may not be able to join:
- You have previously had surgery on your foot or ankle.
- You have severe difficulties with thinking or memory, or you would be unable to follow the post-treatment care plan or take part in assessments.
- Your tight Achilles tendon or foot deformity is caused by another known condition, such as diabetes, joint infection, or inflammatory joint disease.
- You have significant problems with blood circulation in your legs, or another serious unstable health condition such as cancer, a blood disorder, or heart, lung, liver, or kidney problems.
- You have another nerve or muscle condition that is not related to hereditary spastic paraparesis.
- You are unlikely to follow the study's requirements, or there is another reason that would make it unsafe or unsuitable for you to join a clinical trial (confirm with trial site).
