Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 years or older
- People who have rectal cancer in the middle or lower part of the rectum (stages I to IV) and have had a specific type of bowel surgery (called LAR with TME) along with a temporary stoma (an opening in the abdomen to divert waste while the bowel heals)
- People who are able to understand and agree to take part, confirmed by signing a consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People living with dementia or another psychiatric condition that would make it difficult to complete questionnaires or benefit from the training involved in the trial
- People whose temporary stoma cannot be reversed (closed) because of an ongoing leak at the surgical join or because the cancer has come back in the same area
