Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been newly diagnosed with a type of colon cancer called adenocarcinoma, confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy), where the cancer appears to have grown into the layer just below the surface lining and may be removable using a specialised endoscopic technique called EFTR, as decided by the local medical team
- People whose tumour measures 20mm (about the size of a small blueberry) or smaller, as measured during a colonoscopy
- People whose biopsy did not show certain concerning features under the microscope, such as high-grade cancer growth, significant tumour budding, or cancer cells entering blood or lymph vessels
- People who have been assessed by their local medical team as suitable for surgical removal of the cancer if needed
- People for whom endoscopic images or video of the tumour are available
- People whose scans, biopsies, and clinical assessments show no sign that the cancer has spread beyond an early stage (no further than what doctors classify as T2N0M0)
- People who have no medical reasons preventing them from receiving either of the two treatments being compared in this trial
- People who have provided written consent to participate
- People with no more than 10 adenomas or serrated polyps (a type of bowel growth)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had bowel cancer before, or who have another bowel cancer at the same time as the one being assessed
- People who have another type of cancer that has not been fully treated or cured
- People who have a hereditary condition that causes many polyps to grow in the bowel, such as adenomatous or serrated polyposis syndrome, Lynch syndrome, or Lynch-like syndrome
- People who have inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis
