Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years old or older
- You are generally well and able to carry out daily activities with little or no limitation (confirm with trial site)
- You have been diagnosed with rectal cancer confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy)
- Your tumor is located in the lower part of the rectum, close to the anal opening (within about 8 cm)
- Your cancer is at an early stage and has not spread to nearby lymph nodes or other parts of the body
- You strongly prefer to keep your bowel and have declined a major surgery that would require a permanent colostomy bag
- A surgeon has confirmed that a smaller, local removal of the tumor is possible
- You are able to receive a combination of chemotherapy and radiation treatment without medical concerns

- People who do not meet the requirements listed above
- People who are not willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the study
- People who have difficulty with thinking, memory, or have a mental health condition that may affect their ability to participate
- People who the study doctors decide are not suitable for the trial for other medical reasons (confirm with trial site)
