Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (Parkinson's that does not have a known cause) by a neurologist
- People whose Parkinson's disease falls between stages II and IV on a standard scale used to measure how advanced the condition is (the modified Hoehn & Yahr Scale)
- People who have been on a stable Parkinson's medication plan for at least 6 months, with no recent changes
- People who are able to walk independently along a 14-metre corridor at a slower walking pace (no faster than 1.1 metres per second)
- People who are able to safely and correctly use a single-point walking cane, and who have not regularly used any walking aid or assistive device since their Parkinson's diagnosis
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have cognitive impairment (problems with memory or thinking), as measured by a standard test called the Mini Mental State Examination
- People who use deep brain stimulation (a device surgically implanted to help control Parkinson's symptoms)
- People who have another neurological condition (affecting the brain or nerves), heart or lung condition, or a muscle or bone condition that could affect their ability to safely take part in the trial's tests
