Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have agreed to take part by signing a consent form and are willing to be monitored during the study.
  • People who have atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) that has not responded to, or could not be tolerated, at least one type of heart rhythm medication (Class 1 or Class 3 antiarrhythmic drug).
  • People who have persistent or permanent atrial fibrillation, meaning their irregular heart rhythm has lasted longer than seven days, or lasted less than seven days but required medication or an electrical procedure to stop it.
  • People aged 20 years or older, of any gender.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have a blood clot in the heart (in the upper or lower chambers).
  • People who are allergic to, or otherwise unable to receive, contrast dye used during imaging procedures.
  • People who are pregnant, or who are unable to be exposed to X-ray radiation.
  • People with severely reduced kidney function (a filtration rate below 15, or who are on dialysis).
  • People who have a disorder affecting the autonomic nervous system (the part of the nervous system that controls automatic body functions), such as sleep apnea.
  • People under the age of 20 or over the age of 90, regardless of gender.
  • People for whom blood-thinning medication is not medically appropriate.
