- People whose chronic pain is not related to nerve-based (neuropathic) causes, such as pain from cancer, carpal tunnel syndrome, or post-shingles pain
- People who have blood vessel complications related to diabetes or other causes affecting the limbs
- People who are currently taking part in any supervised, home-based, or group exercise program as part of physical therapy
- People who are currently receiving psychological therapies such as cognitive and/or behavioural therapy or biofeedback
- People who are currently practising mind-body activities such as yoga or tai chi
- People who are currently receiving acupuncture treatment
- People who are currently receiving invasive treatments such as injections, nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulators, or medications given through a drip or injection
