Who may be able to join

For people with Ulcerative Colitis (UC):

  • Adults aged 18 or older.
  • People with UC that has mild-to-moderate activity, based on a specific scoring system used by doctors (called the Mayo score).
  • People whose UC is being managed with a stable treatment — such as salicylates or immunosuppressants — that has been ongoing for more than 8 weeks.
  • People who are able to give their informed consent to participate.

For people with Metabolic Syndrome:

For people with recurring Clostridioides difficile infection (rCDI):

  • Adults aged 18 or older.
  • People with a mild, recurring Clostridioides difficile gut infection (a type of bacterial infection).
  • People who are able to give their informed consent to participate.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or unwilling to use an effective form of contraception for the whole duration of the study.
  • People with known active gut or digestive conditions — such as infectious gastroenteritis (not related to C. difficile), coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic pancreatitis, or bile salt diarrhoea — in addition to the conditions listed above.
  • People who have taken antibiotic or antimicrobial medicines within the 4 weeks before their screening visit (this does not apply to people joining due to recurring C. difficile infection).
  • People who have previously had colorectal surgery or have a stoma (a surgically created opening on the abdomen).
  • People with serious or severe other health conditions.
  • People who are unable to give their informed consent to participate.
