Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have a cancer in one of the following areas that can be surgically removed: the lower part of the bile duct, the area around where the bile duct meets the small intestine, the small intestine (duodenum), or the head of the pancreas.
- There is no sign that the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.
- Scans show that two important blood vessels near the tumor (the superior mesenteric vein and portal vein) are not affected by the cancer.
- You have been assessed as being in good or generally good health for undergoing anesthesia (rated as ASA I or II — confirm with trial site if unsure what this means).
- You are older than 18 years of age.
- You are able to understand the study information and are willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part.
- You agree to complete all parts of the study.
Who may not be able to join:
- You are not considered well enough for surgery because of a serious medical condition.
- The cancer has already spread to distant parts of the body, such as the lining of the abdomen, the liver, distant lymph nodes, or other organs.
- During a keyhole examination of the abdomen (diagnostic laparoscopy), the tumor is found to be impossible to remove surgically.
- You have a history of another type of cancer.
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have a serious mental health condition.
- Scans reviewed by a specialist medical team show that the cancer has grown into nearby blood vessels in a way that would require those vessels to be surgically removed or repaired.
- The planned surgery is being considered for a non-cancerous reason, such as a cyst, a benign (non-cancerous) tumor, or long-term inflammation of the pancreas.
- You do not wish to take part in the study.
