  • People who are scheduled to have bowel removal surgery and are enrolled in the hospital's ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) program at University Hospitals
  • People who will be staying in the hospital for at least one night after their surgery

  • People having surgery at one of these specific locations: University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Ahuja Medical Center, or St. John's Medical Center

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose surgery is for comfort/end-of-life care only, rather than to treat a condition
  • People whose surgery is only to reverse a colostomy or ileostomy bag
  • People who are expected to go home on the same day as their surgery
  • People with a history of substance use disorder
  • People who have an allergy or intolerance to all types of opioid (painkiller) medications
  • People who do not have a sufficient level of English proficiency
  • People who do not have access to the internet outside of a clinical or hospital setting
  • People with significant difficulties with vision, hearing, or cognitive (thinking and understanding) ability
