Who might be able to join this trial:

• People between 40 and 75 years old who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
• People who have had diabetes for at least 1 year
• People who have been diagnosed with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage in the hands or feet related to diabetes)
• People whose diabetes medications have stayed the same for at least 1 month before joining and who are expected to keep the same medications throughout the trial

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have an autoimmune condition (such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis), a thyroid condition, a disease affecting blood flow in the limbs, or any type of cancer
• People who have serious kidney or liver problems
• People who have been diagnosed with a condition that causes progressive loss of nerve or brain function (such as Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease)
• People who currently have an active infection
• People who take any medications or supplements known to cause or help treat nerve damage in the limbs
• People who drink alcohol heavily or use substances (confirm with trial site for specific thresholds)
• People who have taken antioxidant supplements or anti-inflammatory medicines within the 3 months before joining, or who plan to take them during the trial
• People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study
• People who have a known allergy to melatonin
