Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 74 years old, and your first episode of major depression started before you were 50 years old
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is 40 or below
- You have been formally diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) and are currently going through a depressive episode, confirmed through a structured interview with a clinician
- Your current depressive episode has been ongoing for at least 6 weeks but no longer than 24 months
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a main mood disorder diagnosis other than major depressive disorder (MDD)
- You have a history of MDD with psychosis or catatonia, MDD with mixed features, Bipolar I or II disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, or other psychotic disorders
- You currently have certain conditions including: seasonal depression, depression linked to pregnancy or menopause, PTSD, antisocial or borderline personality disorder, panic disorder or agoraphobia, or ADHD with unstable symptoms or treated with stimulant medication during your current depressive episode (confirm with trial site)
- You have had a drug or alcohol use disorder (not including tobacco) within the past 12 months
- You have had active suicidal plans or intent in the past 6 months, suicidal behaviour in the past 2 years, or more than one suicide attempt after the age of 24
- You have deliberately harmed yourself (without suicidal intent) in the past 12 months
- You have taken antidepressants or certain other medications (including benzodiazepines) recently — the exact timeframe depends on the medication, but is generally within the past 2–4 weeks before joining the trial (confirm with trial site)
- You have tried 2 or more antidepressant medications at appropriate doses during your current depressive episode without them working
- You have certain physical health conditions that could interfere with the study (confirm with trial site)
- You are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant
