Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with pancreatic head cancer or a nearby tumour (called periampullary carcinoma), confirmed by a tissue or cell sample taken during an ultrasound-guided procedure.
- People whose cancer is clearly removable by surgery, meaning the tumour has not grown into or wrapped around nearby major blood vessels, and there is no sign the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.
- People who are in reasonably good general health and physical condition, as measured by two standard medical scoring systems (ECOG score of 0–1 and an anaesthesia risk score below 4).
- People who have provided written agreement to take part in the trial.
- People with no history of previous pancreatic surgery or pancreatic cancer.
- People whose liver, kidneys, and blood counts are within acceptable ranges as determined by blood tests (confirm specific values with the trial site).
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer is considered "borderline resectable" (not clearly removable) or has grown too far into surrounding tissue to be removed with surgery.
- People whose tumour is located in the middle or tail section of the pancreas, rather than the head.
- People whose cancer has spread to distant parts of the body.
- People who have already received chemotherapy, surgery, or radiation treatment for pancreatic cancer.
- People with serious other health conditions that would make surgery or chemotherapy unsafe.
- People who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding.
- People who have been diagnosed with another type of cancer in the past 5 years.
- People who have had a major surgery or serious physical injury within the past 28 days.
