Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have recently been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes within the last 100 days.
  • You are between 18 and 45 years old.
  • Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is between 18 and 30 (a measure of weight relative to height).
  • Your body is still producing some of its own insulin, shown by a detectable level of a substance called C-peptide in your blood or urine at the start of the study.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a serious illness affecting a major organ or body system.
  • You have a weakened immune system, or are expected to have one, for example due to recent chemotherapy or HIV with a low immune cell count (confirm with trial site).
  • You have a history of a serious digestive condition, such as celiac disease, long-lasting diarrhoea, severe constipation, or Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
  • You have used recreational drugs such as MDMA, amphetamines, cocaine, heroin, or GHB in the past three months, or plan to during the study.
  • You drink more than 21 units of alcohol per week on average over the past three months.
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You are unable to give your own informed consent to take part in the study.
