Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who have come to hospital with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat condition) and are planning to have an ablation procedure (a treatment that uses energy to correct the abnormal heart rhythm)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a history of blood clots in the left side of the heart, or who have had a stroke or heart attack within the last 6 months
- People with certain heart conditions, including congenital heart disease (a heart condition present from birth), heart valve disease, dilated heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a thickened heart muscle condition), a pacemaker already in place, or an artificial heart valve
- People with an overactive thyroid, or severe liver or kidney problems
- People who are already scheduled to have a heart pacemaker implanted
- People who have previously had a catheter ablation procedure for their heart
- People whose three-dimensional heart imaging (taken via a camera passed down the throat) was not clear enough to be analysed (confirm with trial site)
- People who do not wish to sign the consent form to participate in the study
