Who might be able to join this trial:
- People between 18 and 70 years old, of any gender
- People who have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (a serious form of depression), confirmed through a structured clinical interview
- People whose depression has not improved after trying at least 2 different antidepressant medications
- People who are able to understand and agree to participate in the study
- People who have been assessed as medically suitable to receive anesthesia
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a long-term neurological condition (a condition affecting the brain or nervous system)
- People with an intellectual disability
- People with certain heart, lung, kidney, liver, or other medical conditions that make electroconvulsive therapy (a type of brain stimulation treatment) unsafe — including things like severe heart valve problems, an implanted heart defibrillator, uncontrolled high blood pressure, certain brain conditions, or a stroke in the past 6 months (confirm with trial site)
- People who have had problems with alcohol or drug use or misuse in the past year
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with cardiovascular (heart and blood vessel) conditions
- People with other psychiatric (mental health) disorders
- People with liver problems
- People who have had an allergic reaction to ketamine or any of its ingredients
- People with certain conditions that make ketamine unsafe to use, such as uncontrolled high blood pressure, irregular heart rhythms, raised pressure in the brain, or severe liver problems
