Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 years or older
- People who are willing and able to give informed consent to participate
- People with gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (acid reflux) that is not well controlled by medication, or who cannot tolerate the medication, and who are being considered for surgery to treat their reflux
- People who have confirmed acid reflux symptoms backed up by objective testing, such as an endoscopy showing signs of reflux damage to the oesophagus, or a 24-hour acid monitoring test confirming reflux
- People who have no hiatal hernia (where part of the stomach pushes up through the diaphragm), or a hiatal hernia that is smaller than 5 cm in size
- People whose oesophagus (food pipe) has adequate muscle movement and strength, as confirmed by a specialised pre-surgery test called oesophageal manometry
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose general health makes surgery or general anaesthesia unsafe
- People with known or suspected allergies to titanium, stainless steel, nickel, or ferrous (iron-based) metals
- People who have previously had surgery for acid reflux or stomach surgery of any kind
- People who have previously had brain or spinal surgery, or who have such a procedure planned
- People whose oesophageal manometry test shows a complete absence of muscle contractions in the lower oesophagus (food pipe)
