Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with localised anal cancer or perianal skin cancer (cancer of the skin around the anus), and who have either started or are about to start chemotherapy and radiation treatment for their cancer
- People who are regularly reporting pain levels of 5 or higher (on a standard pain scale), or who are experiencing significant pain-related interference with daily life or emotional distress
- People aged 18 years or older
- People who are reasonably active and able to care for themselves, with only limited inability to carry out physical work (confirm with trial site for exact fitness level requirements)
- People with a life expectancy of more than 12 months
- People who are able to understand the study and are willing to sign a consent form
- Men and women of any race or ethnic background are eligible for this trial
- People who are willing and able to complete study questionnaires
- People who have had a previous cancer diagnosis, such as colon cancer or a previously removed anal cancer, may still be eligible
- People living with HIV or who have a weakened immune system may still be eligible
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose blood test shows a very low level of infection-fighting white blood cells (called neutrophils), specifically a count below 1,500
- People whose blood test shows a very low platelet count (the cells that help blood clot), specifically a count below 80,000
