Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
  • People between the ages of 18 and 70 years old
  • People who have been referred by their doctor for Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) treatment

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have a personal history of seizures or epilepsy, a family history of seizures or epilepsy in close relatives (such as parents or siblings), any known condition that can lower the threshold for having a seizure (such as sleep deprivation or substance misuse), a previous head injury, or certain metal devices in the head area (such as aneurysm clips, shunts, stimulators, cochlear implants, or electrodes — dental fillings are generally not included in this), or a cardiac pacemaker, neurostimulator, surgical clips, or other electronic medical devices in the body
  • People who have certain neurological conditions, including high pressure in the brain, a growth or mass in the brain, a history of stroke or mini-stroke, a brain aneurysm, or any structural brain damage that shows an increased risk of epilepsy on an MRI scan
  • People who show signs of significant memory or thinking difficulties, based on a standard cognitive assessment (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have attempted suicide within the 6 months before the study begins, or who the investigating doctor judges to currently be at risk of suicide
