Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 50 or older
- People who identify with one or more Black African nationalities or ethnic groups
- People experiencing pain in muscles, joints, bones, or surrounding soft tissues that has lasted longer than 3 months and is rated above 4 out of 10 in severity
- People with mild to moderate depression, based on a standard questionnaire score (PHQ-9) between 5 and 14
- People who are fluent in English and able to read in English
- People who are able and willing to attend both in-person and video sessions
- People whose antidepressant medication type and dose have not changed in the 6 weeks before the screening appointment
- People who are willing to give formal consent and follow the study requirements
Who may not be able to join:
- People with moderately severe or severe depression, based on a standard questionnaire score (PHQ-9) of 15 or higher
- People currently experiencing substance abuse or dependence
- People with significant memory or thinking difficulties
- People who have previously had more than 8 sessions of cognitive behavioural therapy (a structured talking therapy)
- People with a history of formal mindfulness training, or who are currently receiving counselling more than once a month
- People who have ever been diagnosed with, or are currently experiencing, psychosis
- People who have had thoughts of suicide or self-harm within the past 90 days, including those identified during screening
- People who are currently taking part in another behavioural clinical trial
