Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who have never had an ablation procedure for their heart rhythm condition before
- People whose atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) has lasted for episodes of at least 7 days but no longer than 3 years continuously, including cases where a procedure or medication was needed to restore normal rhythm after 7 or more days
- People whose irregular heartbeat causes symptoms and who have not been able to tolerate at least one medication normally used to control heart rhythm
- People who have had at least one confirmed episode of this type of irregular heartbeat recorded in the past 2 years, detected by a heart monitoring device or test such as an ECG or similar method
- People who are willing and able to sign a written consent form agreeing to participate
- People who are able to attend and complete all required follow-up appointments for the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose irregular heartbeat episodes last less than 7 days, or whose rhythm was restored by medication or procedure in under 7 days
- People who have had continuous atrial fibrillation for more than 3 years
- People who have never had any attempt made to restore or maintain a normal heart rhythm
- People for whom blood-thinning medication is not considered safe to use
- People who are pregnant
- People with serious kidney or liver failure
- People with severe heart valve disease or a serious type of heart defect present from birth affecting oxygen levels in the blood
- People with a condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, where the heart muscle is abnormally thickened

Primary endpoints
Freedom from any documented atrial arrhythmia - atrial fibrillation (AF), atrial tachycardia (AT), or atrial flutter (AFL) - of more than 30 seconds, excluding the initial 3 months blanking period, at a minimum of 12 months follow up after a single ablat
