Who might be able to join this trial:

• Children and their parents or legal guardians who have read and agreed to the study participation form
• Generally healthy children between the ages of 6 and 12 who are in the stage where they have a mix of baby and adult teeth
• Children who need dental work on their lower teeth (such as fillings, or certain nerve treatments) that requires a numbing injection in the lower jaw
• Children who are attending their very first dental visit and show behaviour rated as either "negative" or "positive" (scores 2 or 3) on a standard dental behaviour scale — not the most extreme ends of the scale
• Children who have never had a numbing injection at the dentist before

Who may not be able to join:

• Children or families who read the participation form but chose not to take part
• Children who have an ongoing health condition that requires them to take regular medication
• Children who have a mental or cognitive condition, or who have a vision or hearing disability
• Children who, after a routine teeth-cleaning appointment at the first visit, show either very strong negative or very strong positive behaviour (the most extreme scores on the behaviour scale)
• Children who have previously had a numbing injection at the dentist
