Who may be able to join
- People who have been newly diagnosed with metastatic (stage IV) non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that cannot be treated with surgery or radiotherapy aimed at curing the disease
- People whose lung cancer has been confirmed through a tissue or cell sample (biopsy or similar test)
- People whose lung cancer does not have certain gene changes known as EGFR, ALK, or ROS1 mutations
- People whose primary lung tumour is suitable for radiotherapy and who do not urgently need radiation treatment to the chest area right now
- People who the treating doctor considers appropriate for standard cancer drug treatment
- People whose cancer has spread to no more than 3 different organ systems in the body
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People whose overall health means they are not well enough to receive systemic (whole-body) cancer drug treatment
- People whose lung cancer has EGFR, ALK, or ROS1 gene mutations, or another actionable gene change, where the treating doctor plans to use a targeted drug therapy
- People who have received radiation treatment to the chest area at a dose above 36Gy within the 6 months before joining the trial
- People who have been diagnosed with or treated for another cancer within the past 2 years — though some exceptions may apply, such as certain treated skin cancers, early-stage cervical cancer, or breast or prostate cancer with no signs of active disease and not currently on treatment (other exceptions may be considered after discussion with the principal investigator)
- People who have a history of, or are currently experiencing, non-infectious lung inflammation (pneumonitis) that requires steroid medication above a certain dose
- People who have been diagnosed with a scarring lung disease called fibrotic interstitial lung disease
- People with known psychiatric conditions or substance use disorders that would make it difficult to participate in the trial
- People who have brain metastases (cancer that has spread to the brain) that are not able to be treated with surgery or targeted radiation
- People who have an active autoimmune disease that has required systemic medical treatment within the past year, such as immune-suppressing drugs or certain steroid medications (note: routine hormone replacement therapies are not considered systemic treatment and would not be excluded under this criterion)
