Who may be able to join
- People who have signed an informed consent form agreeing to take part in the trial.
- People aged 18 or older.
- People who have been diagnosed with Stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — either squamous or non-squamous type — confirmed by a lab test on a tissue or cell sample, and whose cancer has been assessed by a specialist team as unable to be removed by surgery for at least one of the following reasons:
- Imaging shows multiple or merged lymph nodes on the same side of the chest that are too large or have grown into surrounding organs to be fully removed surgically.
- Lymph nodes on the opposite side of the chest, or in the area above the collarbone, are affected by cancer.
- The cancer or affected lymph nodes have grown directly into vital structures such as the heart, major blood vessels (such as the aorta), windpipe, food pipe, more than half of a vertebra (spine bone), or the nerve network in the shoulder area.
- The cancer has spread widely into the chest wall, ribs, or surrounding muscles in a way that would require a large chest wall removal that lung function could not support, or that cannot be fully cleared surgically.
- The tumor is in a difficult location — for example, a Pancoast tumor at the top of the lung growing into the spine or nerve networks, involvement of the nerve controlling the voice box causing vocal cord paralysis, or a location where complete surgical removal is not possible.
- The person's heart and lung function is not strong enough to tolerate removal of a lung lobe or an entire lung, due to conditions such as reduced cardiopulmonary reserve, serious heart disease, blood clotting problems, or other significant health conditions.
- People who have at least one measurable area of cancer that can be tracked using standard imaging measurement criteria (RECIST 1.1).
- People with a performance status score of 0 or 1 on the ECOG scale, meaning they are either fully active or have only minor limitations in physical activity.
- People whose lung function test results show an FEV1 greater than 1.0 L and an FEV1 percentage greater than 40% (measures of how well the lungs are working).
- People whose organ function (such as liver and kidneys) meets the required levels (confirm with trial site for specific thresholds).
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People whose lung cancer sample shows any small cell component, or whose cancer is classified as large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma, sarcomatoid carcinoma, or NSCLC not otherwise specified (NSCLC-NOS).
- People whose cancer has a known EGFR mutation or ALK rearrangement (other gene changes may be assessed by a specialist biomarker group on a case-by-case basis — confirm with trial site).
- People who have previously received any systemic anti-cancer treatment or radiotherapy to the chest.
