Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older.
- You are scheduled for a planned (non-emergency) surgical procedure to remove part of the pancreas and surrounding structures, due to a condition affecting the head of the pancreas or nearby area.
- Your condition may include pancreatic cancer (if the tumour can be surgically removed), cancer near the opening of the bile duct into the small intestine, bile duct cancer, or duodenal (small intestine) cancer.
- A specialist surgical team has reviewed your scans and assessments and agreed that this operation is the right option for you.
- Your heart, lungs, kidneys, and other organs are working well enough to safely undergo major abdominal surgery, as confirmed by your doctors and anaesthetist.
- You are able to give written consent and follow the study's requirements.
Who may not be able to join:
- Your scans or clinical assessment show that the cancer has spread to other parts of the body (such as the liver or the lining of the abdomen), or that the tumour cannot be fully removed by surgery.
- You have had a previous operation on your pancreas, or have had your entire pancreas removed.
- You have been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis (long-term inflammation of the pancreas), which could interfere with certain measurements taken in the study.
- You have serious health conditions that make surgery too risky, or your overall health has been rated as very poor by anaesthesia specialists (confirm with trial site).
- Your blood protein (albumin) level is very low, suggesting severe malnutrition.
- You have received chemotherapy or radiotherapy before surgery as part of your cancer treatment.
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have a condition that would make it unsafe to perform an internal camera procedure of the digestive tract, such as a blockage in the oesophagus (confirm with trial site).
