Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes according to World Health Organization diagnostic criteria
- People who are able and willing to take part in a 12-hour structured diabetes education course
- People who are able and willing to attend regular follow-up appointments at a clinic
- People who are willing to participate voluntarily and sign a consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a form of diabetes other than adult-onset type 1 diabetes, including type 2 diabetes or other specific types
- People with severe diabetes-related complications affecting small blood vessels, such as advanced eye disease (proliferative retinopathy), high levels of protein in the urine, or nerve pain and nerve damage that is difficult to control
- People who have been hospitalised in the 3 months before joining due to a stroke, heart attack, or serious circulation problems in the legs that required a procedure or amputation
- People whose blood pressure remains very high (above 180/110 mmHg) and cannot be brought below 160/110 mmHg within one week
- People with significantly reduced kidney function, severely elevated liver enzymes, or high bilirubin levels lasting more than one week (confirm with trial site for specific values)
- People who have used certain medications that can affect blood sugar levels for more than one week in the past 12 weeks — such as steroid tablets or infusions, growth hormone, certain hormonal treatments, high-dose water tablets, or antipsychotic medications (some low-dose blood pressure medications and thyroid replacement therapy may be exceptions — confirm with trial site)
- People with an active widespread infection, a serious accompanying illness, a malignant tumour, or chronic diarrhoea
- People with severe memory or thinking difficulties, mental illness, or other conditions that may make it hard to complete the study
- People who are unable or unwilling to attend follow-up visits, or whom the research doctors consider unlikely to be able to complete the study
- People whom the research doctors consider unsuitable for any other reason, based on the individual's circumstances
