Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Men or women between 15 and 29 years old who have been diagnosed with a hereditary nerve condition called hereditary sensorimotor polyneuropathy (HSPN), of any type, and who live in the community (for the patient group).
  • Healthy men or women between 15 and 29 years old who live in the community (for the comparison group).
  • People who can still move their ankle up and down, at least to a flat (neutral) position, which allows them to take part in strength exercises.

  • People who have bone, joint, or movement problems that would make it unsafe to do resistance (strength) exercises — for example, having had an ankle fusion surgery.
  • People who currently use certain dietary or nutritional supplements that could affect muscle function, such as leucine, glutamine, casein, whey protein, fatty acids, or creatine, among others.
  • People who have a long-term (chronic) illness that is not being treated or is not well managed, or who have an intellectual disability.
  • People who have a history of surgery (confirm with trial site for further details on what types of surgery this includes).
