Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years old or older
- You came to an emergency department unexpectedly with very high blood sugar (above 250 mg/dL) and high levels of a substance called ketones in your blood, which together suggest a condition called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Your diabetes appears to be a type known as "ketosis-prone type 2 diabetes" — meaning you have not previously been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes
- You are able to understand and sign a consent form and follow the study steps while in the emergency department
Who may not be able to join:
- You are currently on dialysis (hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) for chronic kidney disease
- You have a known diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, or have previously tested positive for a specific diabetes-related antibody called GAD65
- You have been diagnosed with cirrhosis or advanced chronic liver disease
- You are pregnant or test positive for pregnancy at screening
- You have a known allergy or sensitivity to arginine (a naturally occurring amino acid) or any of its components
- You appear to be at least moderately intoxicated by alcohol at the time of screening, as judged by the treating medical team
