Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 to 85 years (male or female)
- People who have neuropathic pain (nerve pain) in the central or peripheral nervous system that is related to cancer or its treatment
- People whose pain has been present for more than 4 months and rates 4 out of 10 or higher on a pain scale
- People who experience pain daily or almost daily (at least 4 days per week)
- People whose nerve pain has not been fully relieved by standard first- and second-line pain medications
- People whose pain medication has been stable (no new treatments or dose changes) for at least one month, and is not expected to change during the study
- People who are able to attend all required visits throughout the study
- People for whom a neurologist has recommended a treatment called rTMS (a type of non-invasive brain stimulation) of the motor cortex
- People who are covered by or entitled to a social security scheme
- People who have received full information about the study and have signed a consent form together with the investigator
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose pain is related to a work accident or who are involved in legal proceedings related to their condition
- People with any reason they cannot safely receive rTMS or MRI, including: electroconvulsive therapy in the past month, a history of head injury, raised pressure in the brain, metal clips inside the skull, body piercings, a pacemaker, an insulin pump, metal implants or prostheses, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces)
- People with chronic alcoholism
- People who misuse drugs or mind-altering substances
- People whose nerve pain is part of a disease that is still actively progressing (for example, HIV)
- People who have another type of pain that is more severe than the nerve pain being studied
- People who have had a stroke within the past 3 months
- People who have tumours in the brain
- People who have brain lesions caused by infection or metabolic conditions
- People with serious or recent heart conditions
- People with significant difficulties with memory or thinking
- People who are unable to understand the informed consent process
- People who are unwilling or unable to stop certain medications that are not permitted during the study, such as morphine
- People who have taken part in another clinical trial involving a medication within the 30 days before joining
- People who are under legal guardianship, court protection, or otherwise legally restricted in their freedom
