Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have an irregular heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation (AF) that has been confirmed on a heart tracing (ECG), and who are already scheduled to have a procedure called electrical cardioversion (a controlled electric shock to reset the heart's rhythm) between 7 and 26 days from when they join the study
  • People aged 55 years or older
  • People who have signed a written consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are currently taking a type of medication called an SGLT2 inhibitor (a class of tablet often used for diabetes or heart conditions)
  • People who have ever been diagnosed with heart failure, or currently have heart failure
  • People who have Type 1 diabetes
  • People whose kidneys are not working well enough, based on a blood test result that measures kidney function (called eGFR) being below a certain level (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have had a procedure called pulmonary vein isolation (a treatment for irregular heart rhythm) within the past 3 months, or who have one planned during the 56-day study period
  • People for whom SGLT2 inhibitor medications would be medically unsuitable or unsafe
  • People whom the trial doctor considers should not take part, for any reason
