Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People who are scheduled to receive an autologous stem cell transplant (a procedure using the patient's own stem cells) for multiple myeloma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, or Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
- People whose general physical functioning meets a certain minimum level, as measured by a standard medical scoring system called the Karnofsky performance scale (score of 60% or higher)
- People who meet the specific transplant patient guidelines used at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital's bone marrow transplant program
- People whose heart is functioning at an adequate level (left ventricular ejection fraction of 40% or higher)
- People whose lungs are functioning at an adequate level (a breathing test result of 45% or higher of the expected value, adjusted for blood count)
- People whose liver is functioning within acceptable ranges, based on standard blood test results
- People whose kidneys are functioning adequately, based on blood and urine measurements (note: this particular kidney requirement may not apply to multiple myeloma patients receiving a specific high-dose chemotherapy called Melphalan — confirm with trial site)
- People who are willing to use contraception if there is any possibility of becoming pregnant
- People who are able to give informed consent themselves, or, for those who have difficulty making decisions, people who have a family member or guardian available to assist with and provide consent
- People with a life expectancy of more than 12 months, not counting the condition being treated with the transplant
- People who have already gone through stem cell collection using a medication called G-CSF (or a similar drug), either with or without another medication called plerixafor
Who may not be able to join:
- People with HIV that is not currently under control
- People with a bacterial infection that is not currently under control
- People with active disease affecting the brain or central nervous system
- People who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
- People who have another type of cancer, apart from a skin cancer that only needs local (surface-level) treatment
