- People who have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer through laboratory testing and are planned to have surgery to remove part of the colon or rectum.
- People between 18 and 85 years of age who have been assessed by an anaesthetist as being in generally acceptable health for surgery (a standard pre-surgery health rating of I, II, or III).

- People who have previously had radiation treatment to the abdomen, or multiple past abdominal surgeries that have caused significant internal scarring.
- People who have another type of cancer and are currently receiving radiation or chemotherapy for it.
