Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer through laboratory testing and are planned to have surgery to remove part of the colon or rectum.
• People between 18 and 85 years of age who have been assessed by an anaesthetist as being in generally acceptable health for surgery (a standard pre-surgery health rating of I, II, or III).
• People whose surgeon plans to reconnect the bowel in a single procedure during the same operation.

Who may not be able to join:

• People who already have a leak at a bowel join, or a serious infection inside the abdomen before surgery.
• People who have a serious heart or brain condition that is currently in an acute or active stage, such as a recent heart attack or stroke.
• People with severely reduced liver or kidney function, as measured by specific medical tests (confirm with trial site).
• People with blood clotting problems — such as very low platelet levels or a high INR reading — or who are on blood-thinning medication that cannot be safely adjusted before surgery.
• People who have previously had radiation treatment to the abdomen, or multiple past abdominal surgeries that have caused significant internal scarring.
• People who have another type of cancer and are currently receiving radiation or chemotherapy for it.
• People with a psychiatric condition or significant memory or thinking difficulties that would make it hard to follow the study requirements.
