Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older (male or female)
- You have had at least 2 episodes of atrial fibrillation (AF) or atrial flutter, and at least one of those must have been atrial fibrillation specifically
- At least one of those AF episodes happened within the last 12 months and was recorded by a heart monitor or ECG machine, as confirmed by the trial doctor
- You meet at least one of the following: your heart was in an irregular rhythm for 1% or more of the time on a wearable heart monitor within the last 12 months; you have a certain risk score for stroke based on conditions like heart failure, high blood pressure, diabetes, age, or past strokes (confirm with trial site for your specific score); you have mild or stable heart failure with few or no symptoms; or a specific heart-related protein in your blood (NT-proBNP) was measured at 300 pg/mL or higher within the last 12 months
- You are currently taking stroke-prevention medication as recommended by your doctor
- Your body weight relative to your height (BMI) is 18 or above
- Your heart is in a normal rhythm at the start of the trial, confirmed by an ECG (if your heart is not in normal rhythm, it may need to be reset at least 12 hours before you officially join)
Who may not be able to join:
- You have permanent atrial fibrillation (AF that does not go back to normal rhythm)
- Your AF is being caused by a treatable or temporary condition, such as thyroid problems, heart inflammation, heavy alcohol use, an infection, recent surgery, or a blood clot in the lungs
- You are currently taking certain heart rhythm medications (some must be stopped for at least 7 days before the trial, and one specific medication called amiodarone must be stopped at least 6 weeks before — confirm with trial site)
- You previously had a procedure to correct your AF (called an ablation) and have not had any AF episodes in the 2 or more months since that procedure
- You have a pacemaker, defibrillator, or implanted heart monitor
- You have a specific type of heart muscle disease, such as amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (confirm with trial site)
- Your heart's pumping strength (ejection fraction) was measured at 40% or below within the last 12 months
- You are currently experiencing worsening heart failure or were hospitalised for heart failure within the last 3 months
