Who might be able to join this trial:

• Both the patient and their care partner are 18 years of age or older
• The patient has a care partner — meaning someone they know who regularly provides health-related, emotional, or practical support — and that care partner is willing to take part in the trial
• The patient has shown signs of depression symptoms based on a standard screening questionnaire called the Patient Health Questionnaire

Who may not be able to join:

• The patient's planned stay at the nursing facility is expected to be shorter than 7 days
• The patient shows more than mild thinking or memory difficulties, based on a standard cognitive screening tool called the Brief Interview for Mental Status
• The patient's roommate at the skilled nursing facility is already enrolled in this study or receiving the intervention
• Either the patient or their care partner has been assessed as being at high risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviour, based on a standardised safety assessment tool
• Either the patient or their care partner has recently started a new course of talk therapy (psychotherapy)
