Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 40 and 80 years old
- People diagnosed with Parkinson's disease according to the 2015 Movement Disorder Society diagnostic guidelines, with a mild to moderate stage of the condition (Hoehn and Yahr stage 1 to 2.5) and who have had the condition for 5 years or less
- People diagnosed with certain related movement conditions — including progressive supranuclear palsy, dementia with Lewy bodies, corticobasal degeneration, multiple system atrophy (P subtype), or Parkinson's symptoms caused by long-term antipsychotic medication use (3 months or more) or by blood vessel changes seen on a brain scan — who have had the condition for 5 years or less
- People diagnosed with essential tremor (a trembling condition unrelated to Parkinson's disease) according to the 2018 Movement Disorder Society guidelines, with no Parkinson's-related symptoms, and who have had the condition for at least 1 year
- Healthy volunteers with no Parkinson's-related symptoms (confirmed by a neurological check) who have not taken antipsychotic or dopamine-related medications in the past 3 months
- All participants must be willing to follow the study procedures and sign a written consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People with serious eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, retinal detachment, or macular degeneration
- People who are unable to tolerate a non-invasive eye scan of the back of the eye (retinal imaging)
- People with a known allergy — or a suspected high risk of allergy — to Parkinson's disease medications
- People with serious heart or blood vessel conditions (such as coronary heart disease, heart attack, or stroke), liver or kidney problems, cancer, or other conditions that may affect health outcomes
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with active infectious diseases (such as tuberculosis or HIV/AIDS) or ongoing inflammatory conditions (such as rheumatoid arthritis)
- People with a diagnosed psychiatric disorder
