Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm), confirmed by a heart monitoring test such as a Holter monitor, rhythm strip, or ECG
- People with moderate heart failure symptoms, classified as NYHA Class II or III (meaning some or noticeable limitations during physical activity)
- People whose heart is still pumping with more than 40% of its normal pumping strength

Who may not be able to join:
- People who have been diagnosed with permanent atrial fibrillation (where the irregular rhythm is no longer treated to restore a normal rhythm)
- People who have previously had a catheter ablation procedure for atrial fibrillation
- People with severe heart failure symptoms classified as NYHA Class IV (symptoms present even at rest)
- People with rheumatic heart disease
- People with moderate or severe narrowing of the mitral heart valve (mitral stenosis)
- People who have a mechanical mitral heart valve
- People with severe narrowing of the aortic valve, or severe leaking of the aortic or mitral valve
- People whose kidneys have failed to the point of requiring dialysis
- People for whom blood-thinning medication (anticoagulation) is not medically safe or suitable
- People with a condition where abnormal substances build up in the heart muscle (infiltrative cardiomyopathy)
- People with complex heart defects present from birth
- People with a thyroid condition that has not been treated
- People who have had a heart attack or open-heart bypass surgery within the past 12 weeks
- People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial
- People who are unable to give their own informed consent to participate
- People with a serious non-heart-related illness where life expectancy is 1 year or less
- People under 18 years of age
