Who may be able to join
- People aged between 18 and 80 years old, of any gender.
- People who have lung nodules found on a chest CT scan that are suspected to be cancerous and that the researchers have determined need a needle biopsy to get a clear diagnosis.
- People whose lung nodule measures more than 8mm but no more than 30mm at its longest point.
- People who have signed the consent form and are willing to take part in the study voluntarily.
- People who are able to understand the study, cooperate with its procedures, and attend follow-up appointments as required.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People who have a blood clotting problem that cannot be corrected, an infection along the path where the needle would be inserted, a nodule that is too close to organs or major blood vessels, a suspected parasitic lung cyst (echinococcosis) on scans, a need for mechanical breathing support (a ventilator), a liver condition called multilocular echinococcosis, or who are in a coma or otherwise unable to cooperate.
- People who the investigators determine are not suitable for a chest needle biopsy due to conditions such as severe high blood pressure in the lungs, large air pockets in the lungs (bullae), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, or lung scarring (pulmonary fibrosis).
- People who are in poor overall health, such as those with cancer that has spread widely through the body, severe infection, high fever, significant weight loss and muscle wasting (cachexia), serious failure of major organs, or severe anaemia and nutritional problems that cannot be improved quickly.
- People who are allergic to contrast dyes or anaesthetic medicines.
- People who have a pacemaker implanted.
- People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the trial.
- People who are unable to cooperate with the procedure due to known drug or alcohol dependency, mental health or neurological conditions, intellectual disability, or psychological disorders.
- People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial of a drug (within the past 3 months) or a medical device (within the past 1 month).
- People whose lung nodule has already been diagnosed or has already received treatment.
- People who the investigator considers unsuitable for the trial for any other reason.
