For people with Parkinson's disease:
- A movement disorder specialist has diagnosed the person with Parkinson's disease using a standard set of clinical criteria (known as the UK brain bank criteria)
- The person's Parkinson's is rated as stage I, II, or III on a standard scale used to measure how advanced the condition is (confirm with trial site)
- The person is able to travel to and attend Northumbria University in Newcastle Upon Tyne for study visits
- The person is able to walk and stand without assistance for at least 2 minutes
- The person is aged 50 years or older
For healthy volunteers (people without Parkinson's):
- The person is able to travel to and attend Northumbria University in Newcastle Upon Tyne for study visits
- The person is aged 50 years or older
- The person is able to walk and stand without assistance for at least 2 minutes
Who may not be able to join:
For people with Parkinson's disease:
- The person has a history of any other neurological condition besides Parkinson's, such as Huntington's disease, stroke, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, or Alzheimer's disease
- The person is unable to walk or stand without help
- The person scores below 21 on a standard memory and thinking assessment called the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (confirm with trial site)
- The person has significant physical problems unrelated to Parkinson's that may affect how they walk, such as joint or muscle issues, back pain, or recent surgery
For healthy volunteers:
- The person has a history of any neurological condition, such as Huntington's disease, stroke, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, or Alzheimer's disease
- The person has significant physical problems that may affect how they walk, such as joint or muscle issues, back pain, or recent surgery
