Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 80 years old
- You have been diagnosed with a type of irregular heartbeat called paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, where episodes stop on their own and last less than 7 days
- You are scheduled to have your first-ever procedure (called radiofrequency catheter ablation) to treat your irregular heartbeat
- You are able to give signed consent and are willing to attend follow-up appointments for at least 12 months
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a structural or serious heart condition such as rheumatic heart disease, severe heart valve problems, a history of heart valve replacement, or an enlarged/weakened heart muscle
- You have another type of irregular heart rhythm that also needs to be treated with an ablation procedure at the same time
- You have previously had a catheter ablation procedure for any type of irregular heart rhythm, including atrial fibrillation or flutter
- You have an overactive thyroid gland, an active cancer, or another serious illness where life expectancy is less than 1 year
- You are unable to take blood-thinning (anticoagulant) medications for any reason
- You are currently taking heart rhythm medications that you cannot stop for reasons unrelated to atrial fibrillation
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
