Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 60 years of age or older
  • You are scheduled to have surgery (cancer-related, heart-related, or orthopedic/bone and joint surgery) at BJH or BJWCH
  • You have been screened and show significant signs of depression or anxiety, with a score of 10 or higher on a standard questionnaire called the PHQ-ADS
  • You identify as Black or African American

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are not able to give your own consent to take part in the study
  • You have been screened and show severe memory or thinking difficulties, with a score of 10 or higher on a standard test called the Short Blessed Test
  • You are currently having thoughts of suicide
  • You have been assessed as not suitable by the surgeon or the study lead (confirm with trial site)
