Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have high blood pressure that is either newly diagnosed or being managed with no more than 2 blood pressure medications, with blood pressure readings within specific ranges at the screening visit.
• People who have a type of chronic kidney disease (stages 1 to 3) caused by high blood pressure, or who had stage 1 chronic kidney disease in the last 5 years but no longer show protein in their urine after treatment.
• People whose urine protein-to-creatinine ratio is below 500 mg/g (a measure of kidney health confirmed by a blood or urine test).
• People whose kidneys are filtering at a rate above 30 ml/min/1.73m² (a measure of kidney function confirmed by a blood test).
• People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 35 or below.
• People who are able to follow a specific diet plan as part of the trial.
• Women who could become pregnant must be using an accepted form of contraception (such as the pill, an implant, a hormonal or copper coil, a vaginal ring, a patch, or contraceptive injections) or be abstaining from sex — this does not apply to women who have gone through menopause, have been surgically sterilised, or whose partner has been surgically sterilised.

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have been diagnosed with heart failure classified as moderate to severe (NYHA class II to IV).
• People who have been diagnosed with liver failure.
• People who have any type of diabetes.
• People who currently have a malignant (cancerous) disease, other than a common type of non-serious skin cancer (non-melanoma skin cancer).
• People whose kidney disease appears to be caused by something other than high blood pressure (confirm with trial site).
• People who have previously received a kidney transplant.
• People who have had a stroke or a temporary stroke-like episode (transient ischaemic attack).
• People who currently have untreated heart or cardiovascular disease that is still being investigated or managed (confirm with trial site).
• People who have had a heart attack, except in specific circumstances where the heart attack was a certain type (non-STEMI), occurred more than one year before the trial, and where the person has received appropriate treatment and medication (confirm with trial site).
• People who are currently being treated with organic nitrate medications.
• People who have been diagnosed with high blood pressure caused by a condition other than kidney disease — for example, narrowing of the kidney arteries or a hormonal condition causing high blood pressure.
• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• People whose alcohol intake exceeds the recommended guidelines set by the Danish Health Authorities.
• People taking medications for other conditions that the trial investigators believe may affect the trial results and that cannot be safely stopped during the trial (for example, beta-blockers used to treat an irregular heartbeat).
• People who the trial investigator considers unsuitable to participate for any other reason.
