  • People diagnosed with Crohn's disease or a form of bowel inflammation that cannot be clearly classified as either Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis
  • People with a severely enlarged colon, where the main section of the large bowel measures 5.5 cm or more across and shows signs of swelling on an abdominal X-ray
  • People who have a type of bowel infection called pseudomembranous colitis, or a bowel infection caused by a virus called CMV (cytomegalovirus), occurring at the same time as their current condition
  • People who have a hole or tear in the bowel wall (intestinal perforation)
  • People experiencing very heavy bleeding from the bowel that requires urgent surgery to remove part of the colon
