Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been assessed by their doctor as a suitable candidate for spinal cord stimulation (a nerve-calming implant) and are already scheduled to receive a specific device called the Evoke SCS System.
- People whose leg or arm pain from nerve damage caused by chemotherapy rates at least 5 out of 10 in severity.
- People who developed nerve damage (a condition called CIPN) as a result of chemotherapy, and whose chemotherapy finished at least 6 months ago.
- People who have been experiencing nerve damage symptoms for at least 3 months.
- People whose cancer is considered to be in remission, as determined by their cancer specialist.
- People who have no medical reasons preventing them from having a spinal cord stimulation device implanted.
- People aged 18 or older.
- People who are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People who are willing and able to give informed consent to participate.
- People for whom nerve pain medications have not worked well enough, or who have experienced intolerable side effects from those medications.
- People for whom minimally invasive pain treatments — such as ketamine or lidocaine infusion therapy — have not provided satisfactory relief.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who do not wish to take part in the study.
- People who are unwilling or not able to complete the study questionnaires.
- People whose nerve damage is caused by something other than chemotherapy, such as diabetes or small fiber neuropathy.
- People who have previously been treated with spinal cord stimulation for chemotherapy-related nerve damage.
- People who have another pain condition that is unrelated to chemotherapy-related nerve damage.
- People with a history of amputation or ulcers (open sores) on the lower limbs.
- People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or higher (a measure of body weight relative to height — confirm with trial site if unsure how this applies).
- People with severe psychiatric (mental health) or neurological (nervous system) conditions.
- People with any medical reason that prevents them from receiving local or regional anaesthesia (numbing of a specific area of the body).
