Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease within the last 5 years, using recognised medical diagnostic guidelines.
  • A special brain scan (called a DaTscan) has confirmed changes in the part of the brain affected by Parkinson's disease.
  • Your Parkinson's symptoms are at a mild to moderate stage (below a certain level on a standard rating scale used by doctors).
  • Your Parkinson's medication has been stable and not needed any changes for at least 2 weeks.
  • You are between 40 and 80 years old at the time of joining the trial.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have dementia or another brain/nerve condition in addition to Parkinson's disease.
  • Your condition has been identified as an atypical form of parkinsonism (such as PSP, MSA, CBD, vascular parkinsonism, or parkinsonism caused by medication).
  • Your Parkinson's disease is known to be caused by a specific gene change (although one particular gene variation called GBA1 is still accepted).
  • You have a psychiatric (mental health) condition that could make it difficult to take part in the study.
  • You have a serious physical illness that would prevent you from fully participating in the trial.
  • You have taken D-serine supplements within the 90 days before joining the trial.
  • You have a metabolic condition, cancer, or another serious physical or mental health condition at the start of the trial.
  • You are currently pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or planning a pregnancy during the trial period.
  • You have significant memory or thinking difficulties, based on a standard cognitive test score below 20.
  • You weigh less than 45 kg (approximately 99 lbs or 7 stone).
  • A urine test shows a certain protein-to-waste ratio in your kidneys is too high (confirm with trial site).
  • You have moderate or advanced kidney disease, based on a blood test measuring how well your kidneys are filtering (confirm with trial site).
