Who may be able to join

  • Adults aged 19 years or older
  • People who have been found to have, or are suspected of having, stage IV lung cancer (the most advanced stage) based on medical imaging and clinical assessment, either with or without a tissue sample confirming the diagnosis
  • People who are already scheduled to have a bronchoscopy procedure with lung fluid collection (a camera procedure into the airways with fluid sampling) as part of their normal medical care
  • People who are willing and able to sign a written consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join

  • People who have received treatment for an active lower lung infection (such as pneumonia or a fungal lung infection) within the 4 weeks before their bronchoscopy procedure
  • People who have previously had an organ transplant or a stem cell transplant
  • People who are currently taking medications that suppress the immune system throughout the whole body
  • People who are currently using, or planning to use, biologic drugs that affect how the immune system works
  • People who have a known autoimmune disease that requires immune-suppressing medication
  • People who are pregnant
  • People whose stage IV lung cancer has come back after they previously received treatment intended to cure or fully control it
