Who may be able to join
- People who are able to understand the study's purpose and risks, agree to take part, and allow their health information to be used in line with privacy laws.
- Men and women between 18 and 80 years of age (inclusive) at the time of agreeing to join.
- People who have been diagnosed with one of the following conditions: multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD), autoimmune encephalitis (AE), certain autoimmune nerve diseases (including AIDP, CIDP, or autoimmune Ranvier node disease), refractory systemic myasthenia gravis, or idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (including dermatomyositis) — each confirmed using specific, established diagnostic standards as outlined below.
- People diagnosed with MS according to the 2017 McDonald criteria, which involve having two or more episodes of neurological symptoms with physical or scan-based evidence of damage in the brain or spinal cord, or specific combinations of one episode with supporting scan findings — including those with the progressive form of MS, confirmed by at least one year of disease worsening plus additional scan or fluid test evidence.
- People diagnosed with NMOSD according to 2015 international criteria, either with a positive blood test for AQP4-IgG antibodies and at least one core symptom, or — if the antibody test is negative or unclear — with at least two core symptoms and supporting scan findings, after other causes have been ruled out.
- People diagnosed with MOGAD according to 2023 international criteria, confirmed by a strong positive MOG-IgG antibody result in the blood alongside at least one core symptom, with other diagnoses ruled out; or, if the antibody result is weakly positive or only found in spinal fluid, confirmed through a combination of symptoms, supporting features, a negative AQP4-IgG test, and exclusion of other diagnoses.
- People diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis (AE) according to a 2022 Chinese expert consensus, either as "possible AE" (meeting symptom, brain scan or electrical activity, and exclusion criteria) or "confirmed AE" (also having a positive test for a specific anti-neuronal antibody).
- People diagnosed with AIDP (a form of Guillain-Barré syndrome involving rapidly progressing limb weakness and reduced or absent reflexes within four weeks), CIDP (a longer-lasting or relapsing form of the same condition progressing over more than eight weeks), or autoimmune Ranvier node disease (a nerve condition with specific antibody, nerve conduction, and spinal fluid findings), according to established diagnostic standards.
- People diagnosed with refractory systemic myasthenia gravis according to a 2024 Chinese expert consensus, meaning they meet Chinese myasthenia gravis diagnostic guidelines, have a daily living impact score of 6 or more with eye muscle involvement making up less than half of that score, and have not responded adequately to at least two standard immune-suppressing treatments, or have continued to have significant symptoms or relapses despite such treatment, or have required prolonged mechanical ventilation after a myasthenic crisis.
- People diagnosed with idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (including dermatomyositis) according to 2017 EULAR/ACR classification criteria, with a probability score of 55% or higher, and meeting specific criteria around age at symptom onset, characteristic skin signs, and muscle weakness patterns.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- This is an observational study with no specific exclusion criteria listed.
- People where the study investigators identify unexplained factors that may make them unsuitable for enrolment (confirm with trial site).
